He is interested in early ironworking techniques where he has done research in the the skills of the Early Iron Age, Anglo Saxon and Medieval ironworkers. He specialises in the forging of quality Medieval swords and daggers using the techniqes of that period. He has carried out research in the production of forged arrowheads and is regarded as a leading authority on the subject with an International reputation. He gives regular lectures and demonstrations on arrowsmithing at the Tower Of London. He is a Fellow of The Worshipful Company Of Blacksmiths, a Judge for The National Blacksmiths Competion Committee and is a founder member of Local Crafts of Wessex
